Our CEO Lars Moll recently had the honour of participating in the panel discussion "Politics meets AI" at the German Bundestag. In an exclusive circle of experts from business, tech companies, universities and associations, he contributed his perspective on the central question: "What is Germany doing to become a leading AI nation?"
The debate, initiated by figures such as Marvin Schulz (Rapporteur for Artificial Intelligence), Adrian Schulz and Ralph Brinkhaus (Chairman of the Working Group on Digitalisation and State Modernisation), kicked off with an impulse speech by Jens Spahn. The aim was to gather a wide range of opinions and solutions to strengthen Germany's position in the global AI race.
From the perspective of NENNA.AI, we highlighted four central pillars that are crucial for Germany's success as an AI nation:

1. Protection of trade secrets as a competitive advantage
The protection of trade secrets and innovative ideas is of invaluable worth to German companies. Lars Moll emphasised that the uncontrolled use of AI, often referred to as "shadow AI", is already a reality in over 50% of companies and represents a significant cybersecurity risk. This risk can severely weaken competitiveness, as confidential data and intellectual property can leak out unnoticed. NENNA.AI offers concrete solutions for this such as NENNA.AI Watch for controlling and masking sensitive data in browser-based AI tools or NENNA.AI Shield for protection in internal AI processes, to proactively manage these risks.
2. Reduction of dependencies and promotion of European solutions
Another core point was the need to reduce dependencies on non-European AI providers and to actively promote and use European AI solutions to gain sovereignty. Sovereignty in the digital world requires proprietary, trustworthy technologies and infrastructures. This is precisely where NENNA.AI comes in, offering a secure, GDPR-compliant and EU AI Act-ready platform with 100% European infrastructure that integrates a variety of leading AI models while ensuring data sovereignty.
3. Promotion of national champions and accelerated innovation cycles
The speed of AI development, with weekly updates of AI models, requires much faster decision-making when implementing technologies. Lars Moll advocated for the support of national champions and greater trust in homegrown technologies to avoid slowing down innovation through lengthy selection processes. NENNA.AI enables companies to experiment and scale quickly and securely with AI without having to compromise on data protection, thereby accelerating innovation cycles.
4. AI skills in schools as a foundation for the future
Aside from corporate aspects, our CEO also highlighted the importance of teaching AI skills in schools. AI should not be misunderstood as a mere cheating tool. Instead, AI literacy must be actively taught to prepare tomorrow's talents for the challenges and opportunities of the digital world. This is the foundation for a sustainably successful AI nation.
Conclusion: AI as a competitive advantage – secure and responsible
The conclusion of Lars Moll and NENNA.AI is clear: AI is an immense competitive advantage when it is enabled securely and responsibly. This requires close cooperation between politics, business and science to create the right framework conditions while fostering innovation. Advocacy for the IT SME sector, as carried out by the Federal Association of IT SMEs (BITMi), underscores the necessity of these partnerships.
