Berlin-based startup NENNA.AI accompanied Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger to ALL IN in Montreal
Berlin/Montreal, September 18, 2026 – Karsten Wildberger, Federal Minister for Digital Affairs and State Modernisation, has travelled to Montreal for the ALL IN event with a high-profile delegation of business, technology and research representatives. Among them is the deep-tech and software start-up NENNA.AI.

"AI for Real Impact" was this year’s theme for ALL IN 2026, which attracted more than 7.500 visitors from over 40 countries on 16 and 17 September 2026.
“We are delighted to be part of the German delegation and to be able to present NENNA.AI in Montreal. We are convinced that our data-sovereign AI platform will also be of great interest to Canadian businesses and the public sector in Canada,” said Lars Moll, CEO and co-founder of nenna.ai GmbH.
Canada has long pursued the goal of sovereign AI use. Specifically, the aim is to reduce dependence on foreign AI providers through a programme worth billions. The aim is to ensure that personal data and intellectual property, as well as confidential government plans, are protected as effectively as possible. The recent agent-based attacks by Anthropic and other AI models in particular havebrought this issue to the forefront of the debate.
Canadian investors and German start-ups took part in the roundtable discussion with Federal Minister Karsten Wildberger. The main topics of discussion centred on potential collaboration between Canadian and German companies, access to market capital and the scaling up of AI innovations. A clear, shared stance on data sovereignty in the use of AI remained at the forefront throughout.
For Canada, however, AI sovereignty does not mean isolation. On the contrary, the country is committed to cooperation – such as through the German-Canadian Digital Alliance. For it is clear to all those involved that standards for ethical and secure AI can only be defined through joint efforts.
This is indeed a very pressing issue: after all, almost everywhere in the world, AI tools are being used in an unregulated manner – in business, research and public administration. NENNA.AI provides a solution: by masking sensitive information in real time, the start-up – founded in Berlin in 2023 – prevents confidential data from being transmitted to AI models. Thanks to NENNA.AI, organisations can therefore easily enable their staff to use all leading AI platforms – including ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini – in a legally compliant manner.
German companies showcased their work in Montreal
At the heart of ALL IN 2026, companies, research institutions and public organisations, including DeepL, Giesecke+Devrient, Schwarz Digits, Helmholtz Munich and Dresden University of Technology, showcased their work in the German Pavilion. The line-up was rounded off by a strong AI start-up ecosystem, including Penemue (protection against hate speech and digital violence), ISTARI.AI (trustworthy enterprise AI), Neura Robotics (humanoid robots) and Polarise (sovereign, sustainable AI data centres).
As one of six German start-ups, NENNA.AI also had the opportunity to present itself to investors and international AI experts. CEO and co-founder Lars Moll said: “The stated aim of both countries is to accelerate collaboration and explore potential investment opportunities. One topic was ever-present throughout the event: sovereignty over one’s own data, particularly data within AI models. This is exactly what we have been doing since our company was founded in 2023. The discussions here in Montreal confirm and motivate us to continue on our chosen path, to make the use of AI better and safer for businesses and the public sector. Data protection and innovation are not a contradiction. On the contrary: they form the basis for long-term economic success.”
