duisport is partnering with Berlin-based company NENNA.AI to make the use of artificial intelligence secure and GDPR-compliant. The goal of this strategic partnership is to deploy artificial intelligence throughout the Port of Duisburg across all departments in a compliant manner. In doing so, duisport strengthens its digital sovereignty while simultaneously increasing the efficiency and security of its logistical processes.
Felix Musolf, Head of Digitalisation & AI at duisport:
"As the largest inland port in the world, duisport faces unique requirements: from shipping documents and customs-relevant paperwork to operational data of the port infrastructure, the company processes highly sensitive data daily. AI offers us enormous potential in this area. However, this potential can only be realised if data protection, compliance and data security are guaranteed at all times."
duisport has therefore deliberately decided against in-house development and against dependency on a single model.
"With NENNA.AI we rely on the principle of sovereignty instead of dependency," says Musolf. He emphasises that duisport will pursue a differentiated approach in the future and combine various AI products for different target groups.
"With NENNA Chat we have the opportunity to securely analyse and process sensitive logistics documents such as waybills and contracts," Musolf explains. Employees use leading AI models via the tool without sensitive information entering the training datasets of the AI models. Furthermore, automation is a key topic of the collaboration. Musolf: "We are specifically working on AI-driven automation to optimise processing workflows. For example, the integration of NENNA.AI into customs processes is currently being trialled to speed up document processing and better detect discrepancies in data. Our goal is to accelerate the customs clearance of a train many times over."

Commitment to strengthening digital sovereignty
"The Port of Duisburg is not just a transshipment hub, but a driver of innovation and sustainability. The secure use of AI is crucial to increase our efficiency while meeting our high compliance standards. NENNA.AI's technology enables us to unlock this potential responsibly. This partnership is a clear commitment to strengthening digital sovereignty in logistics," says Felix Musolf. The collaboration between the port and NENNA.AI is intended to create a model for the secure and responsible application of AI in logistics. Both partners are convinced that the cooperation can also serve as a blueprint for other infrastructure operators in the DACH region.
Florian Spengler, Co-Founder of NENNA.AI:
"The partnership with duisport is a milestone for us. It proves that our approach of combining AI innovation with the highest level of data sovereignty is essential for infrastructure operators."
